LONG BEACH -- Cal State LA's beach volleyball team battled Tuesday against a pair of top NCAA Division I programs in Long Beach.
The Golden Eagles fell to No. 13 Stanford, 5-0, in a morning match before falling to No. 5 Long Beach State in an afternoon contest, 5-0.
Karla Santos and
Alejandra Negron had a pair of tight straight-set losses. The No. 1 pair lost to Kat Plummer and Sunny Villayardo of Stanford, 21-16, 21-17 and then to Nele Borber and Rachel Nieto of Long Beach State, 21-13, 21-16.
Against Stanford (12-3),
Janessa Mata and
Daisia LaBrie lost at No. 2 pairs, 21-9, 21-9,
Bailey Anderson and
Erianna Williams lost at No. 3 pairs, 21-8, 21-6,
Daisy Crenshaw and
Caitlyn Bato fell at No. 4 pairs, 21-9, 21-9 and
Victoria Duarte and
Michelle Boyd fell at No. 5 pairs, 21-12, 21-10.
Against Long Beach State (12-1), Mata and LaBrie fell at No. 2 pairs, 21-3, 21-4, Anderson and Williams fell at No. 3 pairs, 21-9, 21-8, Crenshaw and Bato fell at No. 4 pairs, 21-7, 21-10 and Duarte and Boyd fell at No. 5 pairs, 21-5, 21-4.
Cal State LA (2-6) will return to action on April 7 with a dual matches against Sacramento State and Cal State Bakersfield in Bakersfield.
