No. 13 Golden Eagles Put On An Offensive Show

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team put on an offensive masterpiece Thursday evening in a California Collegiate Athletic Association contest against Cal State East Bay.

The No. 13 Golden Eagles erupted for six goals in the first half and went on to an 8-1 victory at University Stadium. Cal State LA (9-1-1, 6-0-1 CCAA) continues to lead the CCAA with 19 points. Cal State East Bay (3-6-1, 1-3-1 CCAA) remains with four points.

Cal State LA started the scoring barrage in the 10th minute and never looked back. Daniel Simonis had a hat trick by halftime, giving the Golden Eagles their second hat trick of the season. Leonardo Nogueira had a pair of goals, while David Elizaga, Teo Jukic and Hunter Hwang each added a goal. Robin Lindahl had a pair of assists.

Cal State East Bay got a second-half goal from Carter Magee.

Cal State LA had a 28-7 advantage in shots, including a 21-5 edge in the first half. The Golden Eagles had a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Nogueira opened the scoring when he got to a loose ball before Cal State East Bay goalkeeper Omar Coronel and chipped it into an empty net in the 10th minute.

Simonis scored his first goal of the game when he accepted a pass from Morten Bjoershol and rifled a shot from inside the box inside the near post in the 13th minute.

Nogueira made it 3-0 in the 16th minute with his sixth goal of the season. He finished a nice give-and-go with Simonis with a shot inside the left post.

Elizaga got his first goal of the season in the 28th minute. Nogueira had a shot hit the post in his bid for a hat trick and Lindahl got the rebound and slipped it over to Elizaga, who one-timed it into the net to make it 4-0.

Simonis made it 5-0 in the 29th minute with a goal off a pass from Lindahl and he competed the hat trick and made it 6-0 in the 38th minute with an assist from Carlos Zarate.

Teo Jukic made it 7-0 early in the second half with an assist from Manuel Garcia and Hwang made it 8-0 in the 75th minute with a beautiful shot off a pass from Samuel Croucher.

Cal State East Bay scored in the 85th minute when Magee got to a rebound of a hard shot by Jared Johnson and knocked it into the goal.

Alexander Brems made five saves for the Golden Eagles. Lindahl had a match-high seven shots, while Nogueira had six.

Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday with a home game against Cal State Monterey Bay at 2 p.m.
