LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's soccer team continued its winning ways with an impressive shutout win Saturday over Cal State Monterey Bay.
The Golden Eagles got a first-half goal from
Robin Lindahl and a second-half goal from
Tim Klefisch in a 2-0 California Collegiate Athletic Association victory over the Otters. Cal State LA (10-1-1, 7-0-1 CCAA) recorded its ninth shutout of the season and limited the Otters (4-6, 2-4 CCAA) to just one shot on goal.
The Golden Eagles had a 14-6 advantage in shots and both teams had three corner kicks.
Alexander Brems made one save in goal for the Golden Eagles, while Daniel Lomeli had three saves for the Otters.
Cal State LA started quickly and just missed scoring in the fourth minute when
Daniel Simonis had a good bid that Lomeli made a huge save to keep out of the net.
A minute later, though, the Golden Eagles got the game's first goal that featured a majestic passing sequence between
Leonardo Nogueira and
David Elizaga that ended with a tap-in goal for Lindahl, who notched his team-leading eighth goal of the season.
That was all the scoring in the first half that ended with the Golden Eagles holding a 6-2 shots advantage.
Klefisch made it 2-0 in the 62nd minute when he received a pass from
Jonathan Hinojosa in the box and fired a shot inside the far post for his third goal of the season.
Brems made his only save of the game when he stopped a bid from Cal State Monterey Bay's Julio Varela.
Lindahl and Elizaga had four shots each for the Golden Eagles, while
Carlos Zarate had two shots.
Cal State LA will return to action next Saturday in a non-conference game at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
