Summary

Biography

2020: Earned CoSIDA Academic All-American third-team honors and first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 recognition. Also earned 2020-21 California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic honors and received 2020 CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition. Team did not compete due to COVID-19 in his final year with the program. Finished his career with 13 goals, 14 assists and 40 points. Appeared in 40 games with 32 starts. Played a total of 2,027 minutes.

2019: Had another outstanding season for the Golden Eagles in his second year with the program. Was second on the team in scoring with six goals, eight assists and 20 points. Shared the team lead in assists and was fifth in goals. Appeared in 20 games and started 16 times. Played a total of 910 minutes. Earned All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honorable mention. Scored two goals in the first 14 minutes of a 3-0 win over Midwestern State in an NCAA playoff game on Nov. 23. Also scored a goal in Cal State LA’s 3-0 win over UIndy in a national semi-final game on Dec. 12. Had a goal and an assist in a 5-1 victory over Stanislaus State on Sept. 27. Tied a program record with three assists in a 6-0 win at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Oct. 9 and had two assists in a 3-2 win over Biola on Sept. 21, including one on the game-winning goal by David Elizaga in double overtime. Received 2019-20 CCAA All-Academic honors.

2018: Had an outstanding first season with the Golden Eagles and was a key part of an explosive offensive attack. Finished second on the team in scoring with seven goals and six assists for 20 points. Was named the CCAA Newcomer of the Year in voting by the conference coaches. Was also named to the CCAA All-Tournament Team after scoring the game-winning goal late in the second overtime of a 1-0 win over Chico State in the semifinals and then assisting on the second goal of a 2-0 win over Cal Poly Pomona in the championship game. Had a hat trick and an assist for a seven-point effort in an 8-1 win over Cal State East Bay on Oct. 4. All three goals were scored in the first half. Also had goals against Simon Fraser on Sept. 6, in a 5-1 win over Humboldt State on Sept. 21 and in a 4-0 win over Cal Poly Pomona on Oct. 25. Appeared in 20 of Cal State LA’s 21 games with 16 starts. Earned a CCAA Fall Academic Award.

At Hastings College: Earned first-team All-Conference honors as a freshman. Appeared in 20 games with 17 starts. Had 10 goals and four assists for 24 points, including an overtime goal in an NAIA National Tournament game against Corbin University.

At Otto Hahn Gymnasium: Played soccer for Karlsrher SC, TSG Hoffenheim, SV Sandhausen and FC Astoria Walldorf.

Personal: Son of Claudio and Gabriela Simonis. Majoring in international business. Enjoys soccer, music, fashion and friends. Lists playing for the U17 Bundesliga team and the U16 Romanian National Team as his most exciting experiences in sports. Notes he has a youth soccer coaching license.
