CHICO -- Cal State LA's baseball team concluded a rough series against No. 5 Chico State with a third straight loss.
The Golden Eagles scored first, but Chico State took control in the middle innings with two runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and two in the sixth on its way to an 8-1 California Collegiate Athletic Association victory. Cal State LA (20-17, 13-14 CCAA) managed only four hits against three Chico State pitchers and was blanked after scoring its only run in the first inning.
Christian Broussard, Jr. had two of the Golden Eagles' four hits, including a run-scoring single.
Nathan Navarrete was 1-for-4 with a run scored and
Jorge Garcia had the other hit for Cal State LA.
Chico State (31-7, 24-3) got seven strong innings from Cam Greenough, who allowed only three hits and an unearned run. The Wildcats collected 16 hits in the game, including a three-run home run from Casey Henderson.
Greg Humbert started for the Golden Eagles and allowed eight hits and two runs over 3 1/3 innings.

The Golden Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Navarrete reached on an error, stole second and scored on a single by Broussard.
Cal State LA held the lead into the fourth inning when Chico State scored twice. Navarrete helped keep it a one-run game when he threw out Henderson at home plate for the final out of the inning, but Henderson came back to hit a three-run home run as part of a four-run fifth inning uprising that made it 6-1. Chico State finished the scoring with two runs in the sixth.
Cal State LA will return to action next Saturday with a conference doubleheader against Stanislaus State at Reeder Field beginning at 1 p.m.
