LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team rebounded from its heartbreaking loss on Thursday to Point Loma with a West Region victory over Dixie State on Sunday.
The Golden Eagles swept the three doubles contests and won five of the six singles points points to beat Dixie State, 8-1, at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (4-1), ranked 24th in the nation, won all five singles matches in straight sets. The Golden Eagles were coming off their first loss of the season, 5-4, to Point Loma on Thursday.
The No. 1 doubles team of
Nozomi Matsuoka and
Kayleigh Hall won its match over Lacey Hancock and Maria Kana Goldsmith, 8-3, the No. 2 doubles team of
Iris Raileanu and
Isabella Lopez also won by an 8-3 score over Kyra Harames and Francis Hina Goldsmith and the No. 3 team of
Elizaveta Sokolova and
Luciana Di Laura beat Dixie State's Kaylee Milligan and Sydney Nichols, 8-0.
Matsuoka fell at No. 1 singles to Hancock, 6-4, 6-4, but the Golden Eagles swept through the other singles contests. Hall won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1, over Maria Kana Goldsmith, Sokolova won at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 7-5, over Harames, Raileanu won at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1, over Francis Hina Goldsmith, Di Laura won at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-0, over Nichols and Lopez won at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0, over Milligan.
Cal State LA will return to action on Monday with a home match against Westmont beginning at 1:30 p.m.
