LOS ANGELES – Cal State LA's women's tennis team got its 2017 season off to a promising start.
The Golden Eagles, ranked No. 24 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, swept past Biola, 9-0, Wednesday at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (1-0) took charge in the doubles and won all six singles contests in straight sets.
Nozomi Matsuoka and
Kayleigh Hall won their match at No. 1 doubles, 8-1, over Biola's Madeline Heer and Kelsey Post,
Iris Raileanu and
Isabella Lopez beat Brooke Sanford and Lauren Lee, 8-2, at No. 2 doubles and
Elizaveta Sokolova and
Luciana Di Laura won at No. 3 doubles, 8-1, over Katie Boesl and Bailey McGeough.
Hall won at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, over Heer, Sokolova beat Sanford, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 singles, Raileanu beat Lee at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2, Di Laura beat Post at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1, Lopez beat Naydene Valencia, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5 singles and
Judy Ung beat Katie Boesl at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-3.
Cal State LA will return to action on Thursday with a home match against Santa Monica City College at 1:30 p.m.
