LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team started well and never let up in a non-regional match against Arizona Christian.
The Golden Eagles won the three doubles contests and swept all six singles matches in a 9-0 victory over the Firestorm. Cal State LA (11-7) won for the sixth time in its last seven matches and handed Arizona Christian (15-3), an NAIA program, only its third loss of the season.
The Golden Eagles set the tone with the wins in the doubles matches.
Nozomi Matsuoka and
Kayleigh Hall beat Desiree Jackson and Iulia Marcenco, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles,
Iris Raileanu and
Isabella Lopez beat Mikayla Morgan and Tia Okano, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles and
Elizaveta Sokolova and
Pyper Brown beat Lauren Garcia and Desiree Curiel, 8-1, at No. 3 doubles.
Matsuoka beat Jackson, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 1 singles, Sokolova beat Morgan, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2 singles, Hall beat Okano at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-1, Raileanu beat Marcenco at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1, Lopez beat Curiel, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 singles and Brown beat Lauryn Sullins, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 6 singles.
Cal State LA will return to action on Monday with a match at Azusa Pacific beginning at 1:30 p.m.
