LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team dug itself a hole after losing two of three doubles contests on Friday against Concordia, but the Golden Eagles battled their way out of trouble in the singles.

The Golden Eagles stormed back from the 2-1 deficit by winning all six singles matches and recording a 7-2 win over Concordia at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (10-7) won the first four completed singles contests in straight sets and Elizaveta Sokolova and Iris Raileanu rallied impressively for hard-fought three-set victories to complete the win.

Concordia (6-9) took the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles contests to take the early lead, but was unable to break through in the singles contests.

Nozomi Matsuoka and Kayleigh Hall picked up the lone doubles point for the Golden Eagles, defeating Andrea Madrigal and Caitlyn Uzzi at No. 1 doubles, 8-2. Concordia's Samantha Schuster and Johanna Keeline beat Raileanu and Isabella Lopez at No. 2 doubles, 8-4 and Concordia's Ivana Vlakic and Kelsey Markle beat Sokolova and Pyper Brown, 8-5, at No. 3 doubles.

Cal State LA, though, got quick wins at No. 3 singles from Hall, who beat Luisa Sterkel, 6-2, 6-2 and at No. 6 singles from Brown, who beat Uzzi, 6-4, 6-3. Lopez then finished off a 6-4, 6-1 win over Keeline at No. 5 singles and Matsuoka beat Vlakic, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 1 singles to clinch the match for the Golden Eagles.

That left two outstanding matches still on the courts and Cal State LA won those two as well. Raileanu came back from a slow start to beat Schuster, 0-6, 6-1, 6-4 and Sokolova dropped the first set before outlasting Madrigal, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a home match against Arizona Christian beginning at noon.
