SAN RAFAEL -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team got its Northern California trip off to a strong start on Saturday with a win over Dominican.
The Golden Eagles swept the three doubles contests and won all six singles matches in straight sets to post a 9-0 victory over the Penguins in an NCAA Division II West Region match. Cal State LA (7-6) recorded its second straight regional victory and got a four-match trip started with a victory.
The Golden Eagles got things started with three solid doubles wins.
Nozomi Matsuoka and
Kayleigh Hall won at No. 1 doubles, 8-3, over Brooke Briseno and Alex Wartenberg,
Isabella Lopez and
Iris Raileanu beat Rickimae Torres and Solveig Karlsen at No. 2 doubles, 8-4, and
Elizaveta Sokolova and
Pyper Brown beat Kelly Zwicker and Cori Beeby at No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
Cal State LA then impressively won the six singles contests. Matsuoka prevailed at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1, over Torres, Sokolova beat Briseno, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2 singles, Hall beat Wartenberg at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2, Raileanu beat Zwicker, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 4 singles, Lopez beat Karlsen at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-3Â and Brown won at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0, over Beeby.
Cal State LA will return to action on Sunday with a match at Sonoma State.
