LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team got its 2016 season off to an encouraging start.
The Golden Eagles, ranked No. 16 in the nation, swept past Hope International, 9-0, Tuesday afternoon at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex. Cal State LA (1-0) won all three doubles matches by 8-0 scores and took all six singles contests in straight sets over the Royals.
The Golden Eagles got contributions from seven players on Tuesday in the victory.
The Golden Eagles played well from the start, taking all three doubles contests.
Nozomi Matsuoka and
Iris Raileanu won at No. 1 doubles over Sabrina Miller and Jessica Cornea, 8-0,
Elizaveta Sokolova and
Isabella Lopez beat Haley Robles and Celeste Chavez at No. 2 doubles, 8-0 and
Kayleigh Hall and
Snezana Ivanovic won at No. 3 doubles, 8-0, over Chelsea Bollinger and Jazsmen Hilbert.
Matsuoka won at No. 1 singles, 6-0-, 6-1, over Miller, Sokolova won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-2, Hall beat Robles at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0, Raileanu beat Bollinger at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-0, Ivanovic won at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0, over Chavez and
Pyper Brown beat Hilbert, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
Cal State LA will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Point Loma. The Golden Eagles' next home match is Monday, Feb. 15, against Azusa Pacific at 1:30 p.m.
