IRVINE – Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team got off to a strong start Friday and never looked back in a non-conference win over Concordia Irvine.
The Golden Eagles swept the doubles contests and took five of the six singles matches to post an 8-1 victory at Irvine Valley College. Cal State L.A. (2-2) captured a pair of three-set victories in the singles competitions.
Nozomi Matsuoka rallied for a 1-6, 7-6, 6-2 win over Ivana Vlakic at No. 1 singles in one of the best contests of the day. The other three-set match came at No. 6 singles, where Cal State L.A.'s
Snezana Ivanovic fell to Concordia's Kelsey Markle, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1.
Sonia Landeros won at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3, over Ellie Johnson,
Elizaveta Sokolova won at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-3, over Ulrike Hahn,
Victoria Vo won at No. 4 singles, Caitlyn Uzzi, 7-5, 6-1 and
Alexandra Makashov won at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 6-1, over Kathrine Jensen.
Matsuoka and Makashov won at No. 1 doubles, 8-5; Landeros and Vo won at No. 2 singles, 8-3 and Sokolova and Ivanovic won at No. 3 doubles, 8-5.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Monday with a match at Azusa Pacific at 1:30 p.m.
