SAN DIEGO -- Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team came up short Tuesday in its PacWest Conference opener at Point Loma.

The Golden Eagles, newcomers to the PacWest Conference this season, lost to Point Loma, 6-3, in San Diego. Cal State L.A. (1-2) dropped its second straight match.

Cal State L.A. fell behind early after losing two of the three doubles contests and then lost four of the six singles contests to the Sea Lions.

Nozomi Matsuoka won her match at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-4, over Maddie Cunningham and Sonia Landeros won her match at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-4, over Nikki Newell. Point Loma, though, won the other four singles contests to take the match. Three of the four matches were decided in straight sets. The closest match of the day came at No. 6 singles where Cal State L.A.'s Alexandra Makashov lost to Kirsty Mountain, 4-6, 7-6 (10-6).

Elizaveta Sokolova lost at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-1, Victoria Vo fell at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1 and Snezana Ivanovic lost at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2.

The Golden Eagles picked up their lone doubles point at No. 2 doubles, where Matsuoka and Makashov beat Regina von Koch and Preethika Venugopal, 8-1.

Cal State L.A. will return to action on Friday, Feb. 20 at Concordia.
