LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team finished its 2014 season on a positive note with a victory over Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday.
The Golden Eagles won all three doubles contests and then posted six straight-set victories in singles to record a 9-0 victory over the Warriors at the CSULA Tennis Complex. Cal State L.A. celebrated its Senior Day with the victory while bidding farewell to five seniors.
Cal State L.A. (7-10), ranked 20
th in the NCAA Division II, won its second straight match and closed the season by winning three of its last four contests.
The Golden Eagles got off to a strong start in doubles.
Leora Hemmerich and
Sydney Postal beat Jessica Laurie and McKenzy Hardin, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles;
Samantha Sismundo and
Sevana Zargarian beat Analyssa Tallas and J'Ana Diamond at No. 2 doubles, 8-2, and
Sonia Landeros and
Tiffany Leung beat Kaitlyn Ireland and Jessica Stokes at No. 3 doubles, 8-0.
Hemmerich, ranked 39
th in the nation in the most recent singles rankings, posted a 6-1, 6-0 victory Laurie at No. 1 singles, Landeros beat Diamond at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-3; Postal beat Hardin at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2; Leung beat Tallas at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-2;
Victoria Vo beat Stokes at No. 5 singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Sismundo beat Ireland at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
