PLEASANTON -- Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team was unable to shake its stretch of hard-fought losses on Saturday against Sonoma State.
The Golden Eagles, ranked 20th in the nation, lost their eighth straight match, falling to the No. 35 Seawolves, 5-4, at the ClubSport Tennis Center in Pleasanton. Cal State L.A. (4-8) got an outstanding effort from No. 1 singles
Leora Hemmerich, but it wasn't enough to stop Sonoma State (13-4), which won its ninth straight match.
Hemmerich, ranked 39th in the NCAA Division II singles rankings, posted a big win over No. 8 Sara Celma, 6-2, 6-3. The loss was the first in a dual match this season for Celma.

Sydney Postal to win a point at No. 1 doubles. Cal State L.A.'s top team beat Celma and Kaitlyn Haithcock, 8-4.
The Golden Eagles, though, dropped a pair of tight contests in the other two doubles matches and split the six singles contests.
Sonia Landeros and
Tiffany Leung fell at No. 2 doubles, 8-5, to Leire Martinez and Lauren Ha and
Samantha Sismundo and
Sevana Zargarian lost to Sheena Johnson and Karlee Budge at No. 3 doubles, also by an 8-5 count.
Landeros won at No. 3 singles, beating Haithcock, 6-2, 6-4 and Leung won at No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
All six singles matches were decided in straight sets.
