Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Golden Eagles Keep Rolling With 1-0 Victory

TURLOCK -- Cal State L.A.'s men's soccer team got a big second-half goal from Marvin Iskra and made it stand up for an important California Collegiate Athletic Association road victory.

Iskra scored on a breakaway in the 66th minute and the Golden Eagle defense took it from there in an impressive 1-0 victory over Cal State Stanislaus on Friday at Warrior Stadium. Cal State L.A. (12-2, 8-1 CCAA), ranked 17th in the nation, won its eighth straight match and strengthened its hold on second place in the CCAA while remaining three points back of first-place Cal Poly Pomona. The Golden Eagles have already clinched a spot in the six-team CCAA Championship Tournament and are just one point away from clinching a first-round bye. Cal State Stanislaus (5-7-3, 3-4-2 CCAA) remained in seventh place in the conference.

Mike Beigarten made three saves in another flawless performance and the Golden Eagles recorded their ninth shutout of the season and their seventh in the last eight matches.

Cal State L.A. had a 20-6 advantage in shots and an 11-3 edge in corner kicks and controlled possession for most of the match. Still, the Golden Eagles couldn't put one past Cal State Stanislaus goalkeeper Clint Long until Iskra got the game's lone goal, a little more than three minutes after coming into the game as a substitute. It was the second goal of the season for Iskra, who had some dangerous chances in the game preceding Friday's matchup.

Sigifredo Torres and Jordan Payne were constant threats on Friday and combined for nine shots. Torres had five shots, three of them on frame, while Payne had four shots. Andre Bissmark and Shane Panther had two shots each.

Cal State L.A. dictated the pace for most of the contest. The Golden Eagles had a 9-3 advantage in shots in the first half and took all seven corner kicks and had an 11-3 advantage in the second half, including a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Cal State L.A. will return to action on Sunday with a road game at Cal State East Bay.
