CLAREMONT -- Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought battle against undefeated NCAA Division III power Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
The Golden Eagles captured three of the six singles matches, but only one doubles contest and fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 5-4, Saturday in Claremont.
The Golden Eagles (9-9) earned a point at No. 1 doubles where
Christie Lau and
Leora Hemmerich beat Kristin Lim and Abby Hayley, 8-1, but Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (23-0) took the other two doubles contests.
Lau won impressively at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 6-1,
Jill Sangria won in straight sets at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-0 and
Samantha Sismundo won at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-0.
The closest match came at No. 2 singles where Hemmerich fell in three tight sets to Claremont's Caroline Ward, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
Cal State L.A. will play its final home match of the season on Thursday, April 18, against UC San Diego.
