Box Score CARSON -- Cal State L.A.'s men's soccer team continued its winning way with a big road California Collegiate Athletic Association victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sunday.
The Golden Eagles got a pair of second-half goals from
Rosario Bras and beat the Toros, 2-0, at Toro Stadium. Cal State L.A. (4-2, 3-1 CCAA) won its third straight game and also posted its third straight shutout. The Golden Eagles now have sole possession of the CCAA South Division lead. Since allowing three first-half goals against Chico State in a conference-opening loss, the Golden Eagles have not allowed a goal while recording wins over Cal State Stanislaus (3-0), UC San Diego (1-0 in double overtime) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (2-0).
Bras, the CCAA Newcomer of the Year, scored his third and fourth goals of the season and now shares the team scoring lead with
Antti Arvola. He opened the scoring in the 56th minute after taking a pass from Arvola and he scored in the final minute of play after stealing a pass from the Cal State Dominguez Hills goalkeeper and finding the open net.
Cal State L.A. held a slim 14-12 advantage in shots and a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Cal State L.A. goalkeeper
Waleed Cassis made a season-high five saves for the Golden Eagles, while Cal State Dominguez Hills goalkeeper Juan Quiroz made four saves.
Neither team scored in the opening half, but there were some chances. Cassis made four of his five saves in the first half, while Quiroz made a save on
Jordan Payne in the final minute of the period and Bras sent a shot wide as the half ended.
Bras gave the Golden Eagles the lead in the 56th minute and the Golden Eagles never let up. Cassis made his final save in the 70th minute on a bid by Sebastian Cortez and Cal State Dominguez Hills had its final attempt when a shot by Aaron Salazar sailed high.
Bras then gave the Golden Eagles their second goal as time was running out.
Bras had a game-high five shots, three of them on goal.
Cal State L.A. returns to action next Friday with a home game against Cal State East Bay.
