LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team picked up one of its biggest victories of the season against a top NCAA Division II West Region opponent.
The Golden Eagles won two of the three doubles contests and four of the six singles matches and pulled out a tense 6-3 win over Cal State Stanislaus Tuesday at the CSULA Tennis Complex. Cal State L.A. (13-4), ranked 17
th in the nation, won its fifth straight match and outlasted a tough Cal State Stanislaus (5-3) squad that is ranked 33
rd in the nation.
Cal State L.A. is ranked fourth in the West Region, while Cal State Stanislaus is ranked sixth.
Christie Lau put the finishing touches on the victory, recording a 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles over Cal State Stanislaus' Verena Preikschas in the last match to conclude. Earlier wins by

Cal State L.A. got off to a strong start when Lau and
Larn McShane won at No. 1 singles over Preikschas and Katie Eng, 8-4 and Hemmerich and Sangria won at No. 2 doubles, 8-4, over Davina Meza and Kelsey Chrisco. Cal State Stanislaus took the point at No. 3 doubles, 8-5, when Heather Cotter and McKenzy Harden prevailed over Leung and
Liz Franco.
Hemmerich won at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-3, over Eng; Sangria defeated Chrisco, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4 singles and Leung defeated Harden, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 5 singles.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Saturday with its final regular-season match of the season against No. 6 Abilene Christian beginning at 10:30 a.m.
