CARSON -- Cal State L.A.'s baseball team endured a long, frustrating day in California Collegiate Athletic Association action at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

The Golden Eagles, playing for the first time in 11 days, were beaten twice by the Toros, 11-1 and 5-2 Thursday at Toro Field. Cal State L.A. (16-10, 11-7 CCAA) has dropped five of its last six games.

Cal State L.A. had plenty of opportunities in the nightcap after pounding out 12 hits against three Cal State Dominguez Hills pitchers. The Golden Eagles, though, stranded 10 runners and were blanked until scoring twice in the eighth inning.

Starter David Arredondo shook off a tough start and went seven solid innings in the nightcap. He allowed five runs, but four of them came in the first two innings. He then pitched four scoreless innings before the Toros tacked on another run in the seventh.

Joe Park, Cliff Quick and Chad Nacapoy had two hits each in the nightcap for the Golden Eagles. Jacob Valenzuela tossed a scoreless inning of relief.

Cal State L.A.'s only two runs came in the eighth. Quick singled and scored on a double by Noe Flores. Brian Compton followed with a single and Andrew Allen drove in Flores with a groundout. The Golden Eagles got ninth-inning singles from Nacapoy and Elliott Russell, but could not score.

The Golden Eagles managed only four hits in the opener and were done in by two big Cal State Dominguez Hills innings. The Toros bunched together six hits to score five times in the first inning and then got four runs on three hits in the sixth inning to break the game open.

Wally Goodline labored through 5 1/3 innings for the Golden Eagles and took the loss, while Shane Youngdale allowed only three hits and one run over six innings to pick up the win. Kevin Pillar led a 17-hit attack for the Toros by going 5-for-5 with four doubles.

Cal State L.A. took a 1-0 lead in the first when Park was hit by a pitch, took second on a groundout by Jordan Castro and scored on a double by Quick.

Cal State Dominguez Hills, though, scored five times in the bottom of the inning. A run-scoring double by Pillar and a two-run double by Ricky Vasquez were the big hits in the inning.

Cal State L.A. had a chance to get back into the game after loading the bases with one out in the third, but Youngdale got out of the jam.

Thomas Landeros allowed only one run over 1 2/3 innings for the Golden Eagles and Adan Cabrales tossed a scoreless inning of relief.
