LOS ANGELES -- Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team had a case of close, but not close enough Friday in a match against former California Collegiate Athletic Association rival Cal State Stanislaus.

The Golden Eagles lost all three singles matches that went three sets and fell to the Warriors, 7-2, Friday at the CSULA Tennis Complex. Cal State L.A. (4-8) had rallied to force a third set in all three matches, but came up empty in the deciding sets.

Jillian Sangria continued her impressive play at No. 4 singles, sweeping past McKenzy Harden of Cal State Stanislaus, 6-0, 6-0.

That was the only singles win for the Golden Eagles, though. Christie Lau fought back from a slow start at No. 1 singles, but still fell to Verena Preikschas, 6-0, 2-6, 6-2. Larn McShane forced a third set at No. 2 singles, but lost to Vanesa Reibstein, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 and Maria Xavier battled back for a third set before falling to Lexy Harrington, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3.

Linda Majzlikova lost in straight sets at No. 3 singles, while Charlotte Spassoff lost in straight sets at No. 6 singles.

Lau and McShane were victorious at No. 1 doubles, rallying for an 8-6 win over Preikschas and Katie Eng. Majzlikova and Xavier rallied from an early deficit before falling in a hard-fought match at No. 3 doubles, 8-6. Sangria and Spassoff lost at No. 2 doubles, 8-4.

Cal State L.A. will return to action on Sunday with a home match against Grand Canyon.
