NORTHRIDGE -- Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team opened its 2011 season with a loss against Division I Cal State Northridge.

The Golden Eagles dropped all three doubles sets and all six singles contests in a 7-0 loss to the Matadors Tuesday evening. The scoring format in Division I awards one point for the doubles and then one each for the six singles contests.

Jillian Sangria had the closest singles match, falling at the No. 4 position to Lorraine Cheung, 7-5, 6-3. Cal State L.A.'s No. 1 singles player, Christie Lau, fell to Jennifer Sher, 6-2, 6-1. Linda Majzlikova lost at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-1, to Nina Jaworowski, Larn McShane lost at No. 3 singles to Anna Yang, 6-3, 6-2, Maria Xavier lost at No. 5 singles to Sabrina Man-Son-Hing, 6-0, 6-2 and Charlotte Spassoff lost at No. 6 singles to Ryma Korab, 6-0, 6-2.

The doubles teams of Lau/McShane (8-3), Sangria and Majzlikova (8-0) and Xavier/Spassoff (8-2) all lost their doubles contests.

The Golden Eagles will return to action on Friday with another match at a Division I program, UC Riverside. Cal State L.A.'s home opener is Saturday against Dominican.
