HAYWARD -- Cal State L.A.'s baseball team concluded its 2010 season on a disappointing note.
The Golden Eagles fell behind early and never did recover in a 6-4 California Collegiate Athletic Association loss to Cal State East Bay Sunday at Pioneer Field. Cal State L.A. (18-31, 16-24 CCAA) was swept in the four-game series and lost 10 of its last 11 games.
Cal State East Bay slugged three more home runs on Sunday, while limiting the Golden Eagles to only four extra-base hits, none of them homers. Cal State L.A. had five singles and four doubles.
Matt Miraldi was 3-for-5 with one runs scored, while
Jordan Castro and
Joe Park had two hits each.
Jesus Campos had two RBI.
Nick McManus had two hits, including a home run and three RBI for the Pioneers (23-29, 16-24 CCAA). Devin Grigg and James McShane also had home runs for Cal State East Bay. The Pioneers got a complete-game effort from Aaron Hannigan, who allowed nine hits and four runs while walking two and striking out five.
Rory Young allowed four runs in the first two innings and then settled down nicely after that. He wound up going 6 2/3 innings and allowing nine hits and six runs. #J.R. Bromberg# did an oustanding job in relief, retiring all four batters he faced, including one by strikeout.
McManus hit a two-run home run in the first and McShane hit a solo home run to spark a two-run rally in the second. Cal State L.A. struck for two runs in the fourth inning with a run-scoring double by
Sam Wiley and a run-scoring single by Castro.
Cal State East Bay got one run back in the bottom of the inning on a run-scoring single by Jimmy Ly.
Campos delivered a two-run double in the top of the fifth to make it 5-4, but the Golden Eagles were unable to score again.
