Golden Eagles Pick Up Their First Road Win Of The Year

TURLOCK -- Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team got its second four-match road trip of the season off to a better start than the first.

The Golden Eagles won a hard-fought first set and kept the momentum the rest of the way in a 25-23, 25-19, 25-17 California Collegiate Athletic Association win over Cal State Stanislaus Friday night in Fitzpatrick Arena. Cal State L.A. (10-6, 7-5 CCAA) won for the first time on the road this season.

The Golden Eagles were 0-4 on their first road trip this season.

Chelsea Hamilton had 12 kills and three service aces to lead the Golden Eagles. Natalia Gonzalez had an outstanding match with 11 kills and a .333 hitting percentage.

Lianne Vicchio had 11 kills to lead Cal State Stanislaus (10-8, 7-6 CCAA).

Cal State L.A. began the second round of conference play on Friday and completed a season sweep of the Warriors.

Amrita Tuladhar had 26 set assists and two service aces, while Stefanie Gay had a match-high 15 digs.

Cal State L.A. hit at a .207 percentage, while limiting Cal State Stanislaus to just .106. Cal State L.A. had a 39-29 edge in kills and a 6-2 edge in service aces. Both teams had seven blocks.

The first set was the most competitive of the match and was tight throughout. Cal State L.A. grabbed a 23-21 edge after a kill by Marquis Mora, but Cal State Stanislaus used a kill by Vicchio and a block by Eva Chafeh and Kaycee Gow to even it at 23-23. A kill by Gonzalez got the Golden Eagles to set point and Cal State L.A. took advantage of a bad set to win the frame.

The Golden Eagles led for nearly the entire second set. Two straight service aces by Tuladhar gave the Golden Eagles a 22-16 lead and Cal State L.A. cruised from there. A kill by Hamilton earned the set point for the Golden Eagles.

Cal State L.A. came out strongly after the intermission and put the match away. A service ace by Zuzana Cizova gave the Golden Eagles a 20-12 lead. Cal State Stanislaus scored the next three points, but a kill by Gonzalez and a block by Hamilton stopped the run. A kill by Jordyn Moscoso ended the match for the Golden Eagles.

Cal State L.A. will return to action with a match at Chico State on Saturday night.
