Cal State LA Athletics

2011: Had an outstanding season for the Golden Eagles in her final year with the program. Appeared in 27 matches and played a total of 85 sets. Led the team in kills for a second time with 248 and was second on the team in points with 267.5. Earned second-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors. Also had 27 blocks and 51 digs. Had a season-high 18 kills in a four-set win at Humboldt State on Sept. 22. Also had 16 kills in a four-set win over Alaska Anchorage on Sept. 3, in a four-set win over San Francisco State on Oct. 1 and in a three-set win over Humboldt State on Oct. 29. Reached double figures in kills 12 times. For her career, appeared in 54 matches and in a total of 188 sets. Had 533 kills, 64 blocks, 21 service aces, 125 digs and 592 points.

2010: Had a successful return to the court and led the Golden Eagles in kills with 285. Was also third on the team in points with 324.5 and fifth in service aces with 17. Reached double figures in kills 19 times. Posted a career high with 19 kills against Dixie State on Sept. 4. Also had 19 kills in a win against Cal State Dominguez Hills on Oct. 6. Had 15 kills and a .407 hitting percentage in a win at Cal Poly Pomona on Oct. 21. Earned first-team CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-District 8 honors and was named the team’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Earned a Division II Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Award and also received the 2010-11 Academic Achievement Award (female) from Cal State L.A.’s Division of Intercollegiate Athletics.

2009: Missed the entire season due to a preseason injury. Made the Dean’s List in 2009-10.

2008: Did not play for the Golden Eagles in volleyball after transferring from Cal Poly Pomona. Did compete for Cal State L.A. in track and field in the spring of 2009 and earned third-team All-CCAA honors after placing third in the javelin at the conference championships. Had the team’s best throw in that event with a mark of 122-11. Made the Dean’s List in 2008-09.

At Cal Poly Pomona: Competed in volleyball and track and field. Appeared in 22 matches and 39 sets for the Broncos as a sophomore in 2007. Was seventh on the team in kills with 93 and averaged 2.38 per set, which was third on the team. Appeared in 21 matches and 56 games as a freshman in 2006 and was seventh on the team in kills with 77. Competed in the heptathlon for Cal Poly Pomona’s track and field team in 2007 and had a best mark of 3,503 points. Earned CCAA All-Academic honors as a sophomore.

At South Hills High School: Earned first-team All-San Antonio League and All-CIF honors as a senior and was the San Gabriel Valley Tribune’s Player of the Year. Was the South Hills High School Athlete of the Year and the Marine Corps’ Distinguished Athlete. Was the league Most Valuable Athlete and the team MVP in track and field. Captured league championships in the 100 high hurdles, 300 low hurdles, 4x100 and 4x400 in her junior and senior years.

Personal: Daughter of Rick and Maria Gonzalez. Majoring in psychology. Enjoys beach volleyball, hiking and reading. Lists being able to come back from ACL reconstructive surgery and help Cal State L.A.’s volleyball team advance to the regional playoffs in 2010 as her most exciting experience in sports. Says she wants to be a sports psychologist.
