Cal State LA Athletics

2019: Had a tremendous senior season with the Golden Eagles and earned All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honorable mention. Was third on the team in kills with 218 and sixth in blocks with 36. Reached double figures in kills in 14 matches, including 10 of the last 12 and all three CCAA Tournament contests. Was named to the All-Tournament Team. Had a season-high 15 kills in a four-set match at Cal State San Bernardino on Oct. 15. Had a total of 38 kills in Cal State LA’s three CCAA Tournament matches. Received 2019-20 CCAA All-Academic honors and was also part of the CCAA 2019 Fall All-Academic Team. For her career, appeared in 49 matches and had a total of 576 kills, 546.5 points, 284 digs, 62 blocks and 36 service aces.

2018: Had an outstanding first season with the Golden Eagles and was named the CCAA Newcomer of the Year. Earned second-team All-CCAA honors. Was third on the team in kills with 258, third in points with 295.5, third in digs with 205 and third in service aces with 23. Reached double figures in kills in 15 of 25 contests. Had a season-high 22 kills and 15 digs in a four-set win over Alaska Fairbanks on Sept. 1. Had 16 kills and 11 digs in a five-set win at Cal State San Marcos on Oct. 2 and 16 kills and 12 digs at Cal Poly Pomona on Oct. 26. Had a season-high 16 digs to go along with 14 kills in a five-set win at Cal State East Bay on Sept. 7. Had a season-high three service aces against Alaska Fairbanks on Sept. 1, at UC San Diego on Sept. 25 and against Chico State on Oct. 19. Earned a 2018-19 CCAA All-Academic Award and also received a CCAA Fall Academic Award.

At UC Riverside: Was a top player in her two years with the Division I program. Was third on the team with 211 kills in 2017. Had a season-high 25 kills against Cal State Fullerton. Had an outstanding freshman season in 2016 and was named to the Big West All-Freshman team. Led the team in kills with 312 and averaged 3.06 kills per set. Became the first player in program history to earn Freshman of the Week for matches played Oct. 10-16, 2016. Recorded a career-high 26 kills and 11 digs in a four-set win over UC Santa Barbara on Oct. 14 and was named the ESPN Player of the Game. Earned academic honors at UC Riverside as well and was named to the Dean’s List in Spring 2018, Spring 2017 and Fall 2017.

At Freedom High School: Was a two-time team Most Valuable Player and earned first-team All-Bay Valley Athletic League honors as a senior. Also received second-team all-league honors as a junior. Was named Best Offensive and Defensive player in 2015. Was on the school’s Honor Roll in 2012 and on the President’s Honor Roll in from her sophomore through senior years.

Personal: Daughter of Michael and Sojourner Sherman. Majoring in political science. Enjoys eating, activities with her dog and video games. Lists winning a lot of matches last season as her most exciting experience in sports.
