Cal State LA Athletics

2016: Had a sensational season in his one year with the program. Started all 19 games for the Golden Eagles and played a total of 1,699 minutes. Had two goals and one assist for five points. Earned third-team All-America honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Earned first-team All-West Region honors from the NSCAA and second-team honors from the D2 Conference Commissioners' Association. Earned first-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors and was named the CCAA Newcomer of the Year. Made his Cal State LA debut and played 85 minutes in a 6-2 win over Saint Martin's on Sept. 1. Scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick in a 3-0 win at Cal State Dominguez Hills on Sept. 24. Scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on Oct. 5. Had an assist on a game-winning goal by Hakon Laugsand in a 1-0 victory over Cal State San Bernardino on Oct. 23. Earned a CCAA All-Academic Award for 2016-17 as well as a CCAA Fall All-Academic Award.

At Fachhochschule Bielefeld: Studied for two years at the University of Applied Sciences and competed in soccer.

At Friedrich von Bodelschwingh School: Attended high school and competed in soccer.

Personal: Son of Kenan and Ilkinur Kalkan. Majoring in economics. Enjoys design, fashion, reading, sports and cooking. Lists his nomination to the U-21 national team of Turkey as his most exciting experience in sports.
