Cal State LA Athletics

2020: Earned 2020-21 California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic honors and also received 2020 CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition. Was on the cross country and track and field (2021) rosters, but teams did not compete due to COVID-19.

2019: Had an outstanding first season with Cal State LA’s cross country team. Was the team’s No. 1 runner in all seven meets. Finished 23^rd in the CCAA Championships with a time of 25:58.62 over 8,000 meters. Finished 48^th overall at the NCAA West Region Championships with a time of 31:18.6 over 10,000 meters. Also had a pair of top-10 finishes. Placed second at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational with a time of 25:27.9 over 8,000 meters and was eighth at the Coyote Challenge with a time of 24:31.69 over 8,000 meters. Was on Cal State LA’s track and field roster, but did not compete in any meets (2020).

At Long Beach City College: Was the Most Valuable Runner on his cross country team in 2018 and earned All-State honors. Finished 11^th in the South Coast Conference Championships. Was the school’s Track and Field Newcomer in 2018.

At Samueli Academy: Earned first-team All-San Joaquin honors and was on the school’s Honor Roll from 2013-17. Competed in cross country and track and field.

Personal: Son of Maria Marquez. Majoring in geography with a focus in GIS. Enjoys watching scary movies, running, playing video games, going out with friends and teammates, traveling and playing/walking with his German Shepherd Husky. Notes he and teammate Johnathon Zavala were remotely coached by assistant coach Andres De La Cruz during the pandemic and trained every day while waiting to return to Cal State LA. Says he improved his 5,000-meter time from 15:41 to 14:34.74. Notes he is a coffee addict.
