Cal State LA Athletics

2021: Competed for Cal State LA’s cross country team and ran in three races in his final year with the program. Finished 46^th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships with a time of 26:16.5 over 8,000 meters. Finished 47^th in the NCAA West Regionals with a time of 32:11.1 over 10,000 meters. Was the team’s No. 2 runners in both meets.

2020: Was on the cross country and track and field (2021) rosters, but teams did not compete due to COVID-19 in his one year with the program.

At Hacienda Heights Wilson High School: Won Valle Vista League individual championship in cross country. Also won the league championship in track and field in the 3,200 meters and was a state finalist. Was the league Most Valuable Player in cross country and team MVP for track.

Personal: Son of Sal and Hirmita Zavala. Majoring in Kinesiology. Enjoys watching boxing and football. Lists going to the state meet with his team in cross country in his first year in the sport as his most exciting experience in sports. Notes he has been improving in the sport with teammate Moises Marquez, who has been pushing and motivating him since he joined the team.
