Summary

Biography

2008: Had a tremendous season for the Golden Eagles to complete a sensational four-year career with the program. Received the department's 2007-08 Frank J. Candida Award as Cal State L.A.'s top male athlete. Earned All-America honors in two events after placing third in the nation in the decathlon and fourth in the high jump. Scored an incredible 50 points at the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships and was named the CCAA Track Athlete of the Year. Won conference championships in the 110 high hurdles and high jump and placed second in the long jump, triple jump and javelin. Was also part of a championship 4x400 relay team. Won four conference titles and seven All-CCAA awards in the championship meet. Was named the NCAA Division II West Region Field Athlete of the Year for a second straight year. Had best marks of 7,528 points in the decathlon, 11.16 in the 100, 49.40 in the 400, 14.34 in the 110 high hurdles, 7-00.25 in the high jump, 13-11.25 in the pole vault, 23-8 in the long jump, 45-2.25 in the triple jump, 44-7.50 in the shot put, 134-7 in the discus and 207-1 in the javelin. For his career, earned four All-America awards, including three in the high jump. Won seven conference championships and earned 15 all-conference awards. Finished his career No. 2 all-time at Cal State L.A. in the decathlon (7,528 points), tied for No. 4 in the high jump (7-1) and No. 5 in the javelin (207-1).

2007: Was named the NCAA Division II West Region Field Athlete of the Year. Won three conference individual titles and accounted for 40 points at the CCAA championships. Won conference titles in the 110 hurdles, high jump and pole vault and finished fifth in the javelin and seventh in the shot put. Also helped the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams to second-place finishes. Earned All-Conference honors in five events. Competed in nationals in the decathlon and high jump. Finished 11th in the nation in the high jump. Led the decathlon until a pair of broken poles led to a no-height in the pole vault and he did not finish the event.

2006: Won the CCAA title in the decathlon in 2006 and earned All-America honors by finishing seventh in the high jump. Also placed third in the conference in the high jump.

2005: Finished third in the CCAA in the decathlon as a freshman in 2005 and was named the CCAA Freshman of the Year. Tied for fourth in the high jump in the NCAA Division II championships to earn his first All-America award.

At Serra High School: Was a three-time star competitor in the high jump and a two-time San Diego Section high jump champion. Was also the team Most Valuable Player in basketball and helped lead his team to the CIF quarterfinals.

Personal: Son of Eunita Burt. Majoring in rehab services. Enjoys writing and basketball. Lists scoring the game-winning 3-pointer to beat the No. 1 Division II team to advance to the quarterfinals as his most exciting experience in sports.
