Biography

2024: Had another tremendous season for the Golden Eagles and added four more California Collegiate Athletic Association championships and two more All-America awards to his career totals. Won four conference titles for a second straight year. Took individual titles in the 100 and 200 and anchored championship 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. Earned the conference’s Most Valuable Track Athlete of the Meet award for the second time and also won the meet’s High Point Award for the first time. Earned a first-team All-America award after finishing seventh in the nation in the 200 and picked up a second-team All-America award as part of the 4x400 relay team that finished ninth in the country. Earned All-West Region honors in five events – the 100, 200, 400, 4x100 and 4x400. Had best marks of 10.21 in the 100, 20.55 in the 200 and 46.05 in the 400. Earned 2023-24 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors as well as a 2023-24 ADA Academic Achievement Award. Also received 2024 CCAA Spring Honor Roll recognition. Now has 11 conference titles and six All-America awards in his career and is No. 2 all-time at Cal State LA in the 100, No. 2 all-time in the 200 and No. 2 all-time in the 400.

2023: Had another fantastic season for the Golden Eagles and earned two more All-America awards to highlight an extraordinary year. Placed third in the nation in the 200 and fourth in the 400. Was named the West Region and California Collegiate Athletic Association Track Athlete of the Year. Won four conference championships, winning individual titles in the 200 and 400 and anchoring the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams to wins as well. Earned four All-West Region honors in the 200, 400, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay. Earned four CCAA Track Athlete of the Week honors for the weeks of Feb. 20-26, Feb. 27-March 5, March 20-26 and April 17-23. Had best marks of 20.41 in the 200 and 46.41 in the 400.

2022: Had a sensational season for the Golden Eagles and earned a pair of All-America honors awards. Finished seventh in the nation in the 400 meters to earn first-team All-America honors and was part of Cal State LA’s 4x400 relay team that finished ninth in the nation and earned second-team honors. Earned three All-West Region honors in the 400, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay. Won three CCAA championships in the 400, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay. Earned CCAA Track Athlete of the Week awards on April 11-17 and April 18-24. Had a best mark of 46.70 in the 400.
 
2021: Was on the roster, but team did not compete due to COVID-19.

2020: Was off to a tremendous start in his first year with the program before the season was halted after three meets. Had a best time of 48.65 in the 400 meters. That mark was No. 6 in the nation when the season was halted. Was also a part of Cal State LA’s 4x400 relay team that had the No. 5 mark in the nation with a time of 3:19.54.

At St. Benedict’s High School: Competed in track and field and rugby.

Personal: Son of Precious and Innocent Tafirenyika. Majoring in political science. Enjoys traveling, reading, playing video games, playing soccer and hiking. Lists competing in the World University Games as his most exciting experience in sports.
