Cal State LA Athletics

2022: Had a meaningful season for the Golden Eagles in her final year with the program. Scored one of the team’s biggest goals of the season, the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Stanislaus State in a semifinal game of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament. Was named to the All-Tournament team after the Golden Eagles won the title. Appeared in all 21 games and played a total of 896 minutes. Was a key player off the bench and played 29 or more minutes in every game. Had one goal and two points. Highlight was the goal against Stanislaus State, a booming shot from just outside the box that sailed toward the far post, just under the crossbar and into the goal. An outstanding student as well, earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors and a 2022-23 D2 Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award. Also earned 2022 CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition. For her career, appeared in 37 games with two starts. Played a total of 1,636 minutes. Had two goals and four points.

2021: Was a big contributor for the Golden Eagles in her first year of competition with the program. Appeared in 16 games with two starts. Played a total of 740 minutes. Had one goal and two points. Made her Cal State LA debut and played 38 minutes in a 1-1 tie at Concordia on Sept. 4. Made her first career start and played all 110 minutes in a 1-1 tie at San Francisco State in a CCAA Tournament first-round game on Nov. 7. Got her second start and played all 90 minutes in CCAA Tournament semifinal game against Sonoma State on Nov. 12. Scored her first goal for the Golden Eagles in the 71^st minute of a 2-1 win over Stanislaus State on Oct. 10. Got to the rebound of a shot by Morgan Patea and knocked it in to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. Earned 2021 CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition.

2020: Earned 2020-21 CCAA All-Academic honors and also received 2020 CCAA Fall Academic Honor Roll recognition in her first year with the program. Team did not compete due to COVID-19.

At Fullerton College: Started all 21 games as a sophomore in 2019 and earned second-team All-Orange Empire Conference honors for a second straight year. Led the team with 13 goals and was second in assists with five. Finished the season with a total of 31 points. Earned second-team All-Orange Empire Conference honors as well as a freshman in 2018. Started 20 of 21 games. Was a team captain for both the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Graduated with High Honors. Received Student of Distinction honors for 2019-20 academic year and made the President’s Honor Roll List in the fall of 2018, fall of 2019 and sprig of 2020. Also made the Dean’s List in the spring of 2019.

At Committed Christian School: Competed in club soccer during high school.

Personal: Daughter of Rene and Monica Basurto. Graduated in spring 2022 and is pursuing her Master’s degree in English at Cal State LA. Enjoys reading, drawing, painting, going to the beach, and finding new, cute coffee shops. Lists scoring a goal against Stanislaus State last season for Cal State LA and scoring her first collegiate goal at Fullerton College after driving four hours to get to San Diego following a crash on the highway as her most exciting experience in sports. Says Cal State LA had gotten off to a slow start and the win over Stanislaus State helped turn the season around. Said it was exciting to be a part and to feel the energy of her team and the stadium since it was a home game. Says her Fullerton team had 10 minutes to warm up and she wound up scoring two goals in a 4-3 win over Southwestern.
