Cal State LA Athletics

2018: Competed well for the Golden Eagles in indoor track and field to conclude her outstanding career with the program. Had best marks of 2:26.79 in the 800 meters and 5:17.87 in the mile. For her career, had best marks of 62.81 in the 400, 2:18.75 in the 800, 4:46.28 in the 1,500, 10:41.67 in the 3,000 and 18:21.56 in the 5,000 in outdoor and 2:26.79 in the 800 and 5:17.87 in the mile,  
 
2017: Had another strong season in her final campaign in outdoor track and field. Finished 11^th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships in the 1,500 meters. Had the team’s best mark in that event with a time of 4:53.07. Also had a best time of 2:19.40 in the 800. Also competed for the Golden Eagles in indoor track and field and had best times of 5:29.90 in the mile and 2:27.55 in the 800.

2016: Had a successful first track and field season with the Golden Eagles. Had the team’s top times in the 1,500 meters (4:46.28), 3,000 meters (10:41.67) and 5,000 meters (18:21.56). Also had best times of 62.81 in the 400 and 2:18.75 in the 800. Competed for Cal State LA’s indoor track and field team and had the team’s best mark in the mile with a time of 5:18.92. Was also one of the top runners once again for Cal State LA’s cross country team in the fall. Finished 38^th in the CCAA Championships with a time of 22:57.8 over 6,000 meters. Placed 107^th in the NCAA Division II West Regionals with a time of 23:33.9 over 6,000 meters.

2015: Had a strong first year with the Cal State LA cross country program and quickly became one of the team’s top runners. Competed in four meets. Placed 34^th in the CCAA Championships with a time of 22:27.6 over a 6,000-meter course. Finished 57^th in the NCAA Division II West Regionals with a time of 22:29.4 over a 6,000-meter course. Was 17^th overall at the Coyote Classic in her first meet for the Golden Eagles.

At Cerritos College: Set the school 1,500-meter record with a time of 4:39.29. Finished sixth in the state after qualifying for the state meet by placing fifth in the Southern California Championships. Also qualified for the state championships as a freshman. Placed 16^th in the state in cross country as a sophomore after placing 12^th in the Southern California Championships.

At St. Paul High School: Spent four years on the cross country and track and field teams. Was a member of three league championship teams in track and voted their Most Valuable Player all three seasons.

Personal: Daughter of Jose and Yvonne Melendez. Majoring in Kinesiology. Enjoys eating, scaring people and making puns. Lists setting the 1,500-meter record at Cerritos College as her most exciting experience in sports.
