Biography
2016: Was on the roster, but did not compete in any meets for the Golden Eagles in her final year with the program. For her career, had best marks of 2:32.14 in the 800, 4:50.29 in the 1,500, 10:28.87 in the 3,000, 18:13.29 in the 5,000 and 37:18.06 in the 10,000.
2015: Ran well for the Golden Eagles in her second season with the track and field program. Had best times of 2:32.14 in the 800 meters, 4:50.29 in the 1,500, 10:47.38 in the 3,000, 18:17.04 in the 5,000 and 37:31.68 in the 10,000. Finished 11th in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships in the 10,000 and 19th in the 5,000. Also ran well in her third season with the cross country program in the fall. Ran in four meets. Had a best 5,000-meter time of 21:11.8 at the UC Irvine Invitational and a best 6,000-meter time of 24:10.5 while finishing 38th at the UC San Diego Triton Classic. Earned a CCAA Fall Academic Award.
2014: Ran well for the Cal State LA’s track and field team in the spring. Finished sixth in the CCAA in the 10,000 meters and 16th in the 5,000. Had best times of 4:53.52 in the 1,500, 10:28.87 in the 3,000, 18:13.29 in the 5,000 and 37:18.06 in the 10,000. Earned a CCAA All-Academic Award. Had a second strong season with the cross country team in the fall. Finished 35th in the CCAA Championships with a time of 23:48.1 over a 6,000-meter course and was the team’s No. 2 runner. Was the team’s No. 1 runner at the NCAA Division II West Regionals and finished 75th with a time of 23:24.3 over 6,000 meters. Had a best 5,000-meter course time of 20:47.0 at the UC Irvine Invitational. Earned the program’s Top Scholar Award.
2013: Had an outstanding first season with the Cal State L.A. cross country team and was the team’s most improved runner. Moved up to the No. 2 runner by the end of the season. Placed 28th in the CCAA Championships with a time of 23:04.5 over 6,000 meters and was 41st in the NCAA West Regionals with a time of 23:10.5.
At Marshall High School: Competed in cross country and track and field. Was the team’s Most Valuable Player in track and field and Most Valuable Runner in cross country.
Personal: Daughter of Francisco and Brenda Herrera. Majoring in food science and technology. Enjoys texting, running, spinning bikes, eating frozen yogurt and watching movies. Lists making it to state as a senior in cross country, finishing two marathons, medaling at Mt. San Antonio College in cross country and breaking her school’s record in the two-mile as her most exciting experiences in sports. Says she likes smiling at random strangers and making people laugh and that she wears pajamas to study hall.
