Cal State LA Athletics

2012: Returned to competition for the Golden Eagles in his final year with the program. Appeared in 10 games and played a total of 282 minutes. Had two goals and one assist for five points.Made his season debut and played 38 minutes in a 2-0 win over Cal State East Bay on Sept. 21. Had an assist on a goal by Rosario Bras in a 2-1 win over Cal State Monterey Bay on Sept. 23. Scored his first goal of the season in a 2-1 win over Cal Poly Pomona on Oct. 5. Scored his second goal in a 2-1 win over San Francisco State on Oct. 7. Played a season-high 51 minutes in the win. For his career, appeared in 17 games and played a total of 431 minutes. Had three goals and one assist for seven points.

2011: Suffered a season-ending injury after just one game of competition and received a medical redshirt. Played a total of 14 minutes in the Golden Eagles’ 6-0 win against Saint Martin’s on Sept. 1.

2010: Made a big first-impression in his debut with the Golden Eagles as a freshman. Scored the game-winning goal early in the second half of a season-opening 1-0 win over Biola on Sept. 2. Appeared in six games during the season and played a total of 135 minutes. Earned a California Collegiate Athletic Association All-Academic Award.

At Brighton High School: Competed in soccer in high school. Team won a pair of Utah State championships. Earned first-team All-Region honors and was the team’s Most Outstanding midfielder. Team was a 2010 Far West Region finalist.  Inter FC club team won the 2009 and 2010 Club Soccer State championships.

Personal: Son of Jeff and Nancy Hughes. Majoring in biochemistry. Enjoys hiking, hitting the links, billiards and a nice glass of ice water. Lists scoring the first winning goal in the 2010 state cup final as his most exciting experience in sports. Is a member of Cal State L.A.’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council and a math tutor in the Athletics Department.
