The Master's Invitational Results
SANTA CLARITA -- Cal State LA's women's cross country team returned to competition on Saturday in The Master's Invitational.
The Golden Eagles finished 16th out of 20 teams with 470 points.
Mikaela Holguin had the fastest time for the Golden Eagles over a 6,000-meter course at Central Park. Division I schools took the top three places with Loyola Marymount winning the event with 77 points, the University of San Diego taking second with 82 points and Hawaii placing third with 92 points.
Host The Master's was fifth with 128 points. Four California Collegiate Athletic Association teams competed in the event with Cal Poly Pomona placing ninth with 291 points, UC Merced placing 14th with 402 points, Cal State LA placing 16th with 470 points, and Cal State Dominguez Hills finishing in 19th place with 582 points.
Holguin, in her second year at Cal State LA, was 105th in a field of 209 runners with a time of 25:06.30. She was the Golden Eagles' No. 2 runner last week at the Biola Invitational and finished first among Cal State LA runners for the first time in her career.
Marina Zeferino, in her Cal State LA debut, was next for the Golden Eagles, finishing in 107th place with a time of 25:10.80. Zeferino is a transfer from Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Nelly Garnica was 122nd for the Golden Eagles with a time of 25:47.00,
Miyoko Mataalii was 124th in 25:51.40 and
Jasmine Trujillo was 183rd in 29:07.60.
Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
