LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's
Joshlyn Ayala and Cal State San Marcos' Kiara Hernandez have been named the FloCollege/CCAA Women's Golfers of the Week, the California Collegiate Athletic Association announced on Wednesday.
Both Ayala and Hernandez finished in a tie for second at the RJGA Women's Shootout at Estrella with scores of 2-under-par 142. The duo finished just one shot back of Vanguard's Theresa Shaw.
Ayala, after an opening round of 70, was one shot out of the lead entering Tuesday's final round and shot an even-par 72. She briefly pulled into a tie for the lead after a pair of birdies on the back nine before finishing just one back. The second-place finish is the best of Ayala's Cal State LA career and her 36-hole score of 142 is also a career best.
She helped Cal State LA to a second-place finish in the tournament.
Ayala has now had two top-five finishes in both of Cal State LA's first two tournaments. She finished in a tie for fifth in the season-opening Swan Memorial last week in Colorado.
This is her second CCAA Golfer of the Week Award. Previously, she earned the honor for the week of April 3-9, 2024 after finishing third at the Sonoma State Spring Women's Invite.Â
Cal State LA will return to action on Oct. 13 at the West Regional Preview hosted by Colorado Pueblo on Oct. 13.
