GOODYEAR, ARIZONA -- Cal State LA's women's golf team held the overnight lead and wound up second in the RJGA Women's Shootout at Estrella on Tuesday.
The Golden Eagles held the lead after the opening round, but were unable to hold off a surging Cal State San Marcos in the final round. The Cougars shot a 3-under-par 285 to win the tourney with a 36-hole total of 579. Cal State LA, after an opening round of 2-under-par 287, shot a final round of 298 to finish second with a 36-hole total of 585.
The 585 matches the best 36-hole score in program history.
Cal State LA has finished third and second in its first two tournaments of the 2025-26 season.
For the second straight week,
Joshlyn Ayala challenged for the tournament individual title right down to the final hole. She finished second after an even-par 72 left her just one shot behind Theresa Shaw, who finished with a 36-hole total of 141. Ayala, who shot an opening round of 70, was tied for second with Cal State San Marcos' Kiara Hernandez at 142. The 142 total is the best of Ayala's Cal State LA career.
She birdied the final three par-five holes of the day to pull briefly into a tie for the lead and had four birdies on the day. Ayala led the tournament with 10 birdies over the two rounds.

Rilee Crosby and junior
Daniela Andrade were two of seven golfers tied for sixth at 146. Crosby shot an even-par 72 on Tuesday after an opening round of 74 and Andrade, who won this event as a freshman in 2023, had a final round of 3-over-par 75 after an opening round of 1-under-par 71.
Crosby had a pair of birdies on the front nine on Tuesday and had a total of six for the tournament.
Andrade had three birdies on the back nine on Tuesday and was third in the tournament with eight birdies in all.
Talia Gutman finished in a tie for 30th after a final round of 80 that followed her even-par round of 72 on Monday for a total of 152.
Lisette Orellana, competing as an individual, was tied for 41st after a round of 2-over-par 74 left her at 156. Gutman had a pair of birdies on the front nine and had five for the tournament, while Orellana also had two birdies on the day.
Sarah Amaya was 48th after a round of 79 gave her a two-day total of 159. She had two birdies on the front nine.
Cal State LA will return to competition on Oct. 13 at the West Regional Preview hosted by Colorado State Pueblo.
