FULLERTON -- Cal State LA's men's and women's cross country team got their 2025 season underway Friday at the Biola Invitational.
Newcomers took the first three places for the Golden Eagle men in an 8,000-meter race at Craig Regional Park. The Golden Eagles finished 13th in a field of 15 with 391 points.
Grand Canyon won the men's race with 36 points, while Pepperdine was second with 62 points. Cal State Monterey Bay of the California Collegiate Athletic Association was eighth with 237 points.
A newcomer also had the best finish for the Golden Eagle women in a 5,000-meter race. The Golden Eagles were also 13th in that race in a field of 15 with 412 points.
Host Biola won the women's race with 43 points, while Simon Fraser was third with 51 points and Concordia was third with 101 points. Cal State Monterey Bay was fifth with 133 points.
Junior
Raye Duarte had the top finish for the Golden Eagles, placing 81st with a time of 26:44.8.
Orion Perez, a freshman, was next, placing 113th with a time of 27:40.6 and another freshman,
Demitri Hernandez, was 116th in 27:43.9.
Senior
Trent Osburn was 122nd in 28:17.0 and
Miguel Morales-Lopez completed Cal State LA's top-five by finishing 124th in 28:18.3.Â
Christian Perez was 134th in 28:52.6,
Nicholas Delgado was 142nd in 29:29.9,
Damian Bonds was 152nd in 30:34.0,
Joshua Lovato was 153rd in 30:34.4 and
Antonio Mendoza-Lopez was 155th in 31:17.5.
For the women, junior
Miyoko Mataalii was 97th in 21:16.4 and
Mikaela Holguin was 98th in 21:19.6 to lead the way.
Nelly Garnica was 122nd in 22:53.8,
Jasmine Trujillo was 133rd in 24:06.8 and
Dalia Romo was 137th in 24:38.4.
Cal State LA will return to action on Saturday, Sept. 20, at The Master's Invitational.
