LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's men's and women's track teams had some strong performances in front of the home crowd on Thursday.

Leon Tafirenyika and Jonon Young highlighted the day for the Golden Eagles at their own Twilight Open with qualifying marks in the 100 meters and triple jump respectfully that vaulted them among the nation's best.

Tafirenyika ran a season's best of 10.29 while winning the men's 100. That mark moves him to No. 1 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association and No. 13 in the nation.

Young, meanwhile, captured the triple jump with a season's best mark of 41-5 that moves her into fourth place nationally. She is also tied for fifth in the long jump.

Cal State LA also got a victory from Nicholas Aninze in the 400 hurdles with a time of 54.77 and a second-place finish in the 4x100 with a time of 40.57, which is a season's best and a provisional qualifying mark.  

Kailea Satterwhite, competing unattached, won the women's discus with a mark of 148-6, while Sinaiah Pointer captured the women's shot put with a mark of 43-3. 

Cal State LA also celebrated Senior Day and honored 18 seniors and graduate students for their Golden Eagle careers.

Cal State LA will have a few athletes competing in the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday.
