SAN MARCOS -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team will be making its fourth straight California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament appearance on Thursday and hoping for some program history in the process.
The Golden Eagles (18-9, 13-9 CCAA) earned the No. 6 seed for the conference tournament and will face No. 3 seed Chico State (22-6, 17-5 CCAA) in a first-round contest on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in The Sports Center at Cal State San Marcos.
The winner advances to face No. 2 seed Cal Poly Pomona on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
Cal State LA has reached the conference semi-finals in each of the past three seasons and is seeking its first-ever tournament championship and its first appearance in a title game since 2013.
Cal State LA is making its 15th CCAA Tournament appearance and has a 10-14 record in its first 14 trips.
The Golden Eagles will be facing Chico State for the third time and have a 1-1 record in two previous meetings. This will be the first meeting since 2018 when Chico State, as a No. 4 seed, beat No. 5 seed Cal State LA, 78-62, in Chico. The two teams also met in a conference semi-final game in 2013 and No. 4 seed Cal State LA beat No. 1 seed Chico State, 66-53, in Ontario. The Golden Eagles advanced to the tournament championship game and fell to No. 2 UC San Diego, 66-61.
Chico State won both regular-season meetings this season, beating the Golden Eagles, 76-62, in Chico on Jan. 25 and 73-70 in Los Angeles on Feb. 20.
The Golden Eagles placed five players on the All-CCAA team released on Tuesday with
Lily Buggs earning first-team All-CCAA honors for a fourth season.
Olivia Hodges and
Amaya Fuentes both earned second-team All-CCAA honors and
Nevaeh Asiasi and
Sofia Fidelus earned honorable mention.
