LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team, enjoying one of the best stretches in program history, has signed four incoming freshmen who are expected to help the Golden Eagles continue their recent success.
Destiny Walker from Mission Hills High School in San Diego, Paige Worthem from El Capitan High School, Jocelynn Townsend from Louisville High School and Brianna Thomas from Great Oak High School are joining the Golden Eagles, Cal State LA head coach
Torino Johnson said.
"Our Cal State LA women's basketball coaching staff is proud to announce the signing of four outstanding incoming freshmen who bring a blend of championship experience, elite defense, academic distinction, and record-breaking achievements to the program," Johnson said. "These four women represent the future of our program. They embody the values we believe in - hard work, academic integrity, competitive spirit, and a team-first mentality. We can't wait to begin this journey with them.;"
Â
Walker, a 5-8 guard, is a three-time CIF San Diego Section champion and is known for her relentless motor and winning mindset, Johnson said. She has proven herself on the biggest stages and is expected to bring leadership and a championship mentality from day one to the program.
Â
Worthem,
a 6'2" forward, enters Cal State LA as one of the most versatile frontcourt players in the region, Johnson said. She is a first-team All-CIF San Diego Section honoree, a four-time honor roll student, and the reigning Grossmont League Defensive Player of the Year. She brings length, basketball IQ, and defensive tenacity to the paint, Johnson said.
Â
Townsend, a 5-10 forward, is a first-team All-Marmonte League performer and consistent honor roll student. Her ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor, combined with her academic dedication, makes her a strong cultural fit and a dynamic asset for the program, Johnson said.
Â
Thomas, a 6-2 forward, arrives at Cal State LA after cementing her legacy as one of the most dominant rebounders in Great Oak High School history. She shattered records with 1,005 career rebounds and 271 boards in a single season and will bring toughness, consistency, and elite rebounding instincts to the squad, Johnson said.
Cal State LA is coming off another outstanding season, going 18-9 overall and reaching the CCAA Tournament for a fourth straight season for the first time in program history.
