Golden Eagles Stay Ninth In NCAA West Region Poll

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team stayed at No. 9 in the second and final official NCAA Division II West Region poll released by the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Committee on Wednesday.

The Golden Eagles (18-9) were one of four California Collegiate Athletic Association teams ranked in the top-10, including No. 1 Cal State Dominguez Hills, No. 2 Cal Poly Pomona and No. 8 Chico State. All four teams will be competing in the CCAA Championship Tournament beginning on Thursday at Cal State San Marcos.

The Golden Eagles are seeking their third straight NCAA appearance, which would mark the first time Cal State LA has made three straight appearances in the NCAA playoffs. The Golden Eagles reached the NCAA playoffs for the first time in 2006 and have also reached the tourney in 2012, 2023 and 2024.

Cal State Dominguez Hills (28-1), Cal Poly Pomona (23-4), Montana State Billings (23-6), Point Loma (23-5), Alaska Anchorage (22-4), Central Washington (21-6), Azusa Pacific (21-5), Chico State (22-6), Cal State LA (18-9) and Western Washington (17-10) make up the Top 10 heading into conference tournament week.

Each of the three conferences in the West Region has an automatic bid and the next five at-large teams will qualify for the NCAA Division II playoffs. All three conferences give their automatic bid to the winner of their conference tournament.

The Golden Eagles' resume is bolstered by a 5-0 non-conference record that included wins over No. 5 Central Washington, No. 7 Azusa Pacific and No. 10 Western Washington.

Cal State LA, as the No. 6 seed, will face No. 3 seed Chico State in a first-round CCAA Tournament game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in The Sports Center at Cal State San Marcos.

The NCAA Selection Show will be held on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. on ncaa.com.
