LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's women's basketball team had two members get named to the 2024-25 CSC Academic West Region All-District team, selected by the district's College Sports Communicators, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Lily Buggs earned CSC Academic All-District honors for the third time, while junior
Amaya Fuentes earned the award for the second time.
The awards honor student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program (formerly known as the CoSIDA Academic All-America program) recognizes women's basketball honorees in four divisions - NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
To be considered for the honor, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 90% of the team's games or started at least 66 percent of their institution's games.
Buggs, a senior majoring in natural science, carries a 3.65 grade point average. She completed a spectacular four-year playing career for the Golden Eagles in 2024-25. She earned first-team All-CCAA honors for the fourth straight year after helping the Golden Eagles to an 18-10 record and back to the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament.
Buggs led the team in scoring with 14.0 points per game and she was second in rebounds, assists and steals.
She earned first-team All-CCAA and second-team All-West Region honors while also getting named to the CCAA All-Tournament team as a junior in 2023-24.
Buggs ended her playing career No. 1 in program history in games played (114), No. 1 in free throws made (379), No. 2 in points (1,623), No. 2 in minutes played (3,694), No. 2 in rebounds (885) and No. 3 in steals (214).
Fuentes, who emerged as a starter in her second year in the program last year as a sophomore, was one of the team's most improved players this year as a junior. She is majoring in mechanical engineering and carries a 3.59 grade point average.
She earned All-CCAAÂ second-team honors in 2024-25 and was third on the team in scoring with 10.1 points per game and fourth in rebounds. She led the team in 3-pointers made with 56;Â
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic Al-American ballot. First, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on April 15.
