LA MIRADA -- Cal State LA's baseball team endured a rough day Saturday at Biola.
The Golden Eagles dropped both ends of a doubleheader, 10-2 and 8-4, at Eagles Diamond. The Golden Eagles (2-3) trailed 3-1 after six innings of the opener, but surrendered seven runs over the seventh and eighth innings. In the nightcap, the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but Biola (2-4) scored three runs in the third, three in the fifth and two in the sixth to rally for the win.
Cal State LA opened the scoring in the top of the first in the opener on a run-scoring groundout by
Kai Penuelas. The Eagles tied it in the bottom of the inning and took a 3-1 lead on a two-run home run by Sam Lisiak in the third. The Golden Eagles' other run came when
Gilbert Morales singled and eventually scored on a passed ball. Biola got three runs in the seventh and four runs in the eighth to break the game open.
Alejandro Huezo allowed six hits and two earned run over six innings for the Golden Eagles. Cal State LA picked up 10 hits in the opener.
Javy Espinoza and
Cesar Chavez had two hits each.Â
In the nightcap, the Golden Eagles jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead, but couldn't hold it.
Isaiah Marquez singled in Espinoza to open the scoring and a run-scoring groundout by Penuelas drove in Marquez to make it 2-0.
Gilbert Morales also had a run-scoring groundout to drive in
Malik Clayton.
A sacrifice fly by Penuelas made it 4-0 in the top of the third, but Biola scored three times in the bottom of the third and took the lead for good on a three-run home run by Sam Lisiak in the fifth. Lisiak finished the game with five runs batted in.
Brandon Gutierrez got the start for the Golden Eagles and allowed four hits and three runs over four innings with four strikeouts.
Cal State LA had six hits in the game with Espinoza, Marquez and Clayton picking up two hits each.
The three-game series will conclude on Monday at Biola at 1 p.m.Â
