Box Score 2 LOS ANGELES -- Cal State LA's baseball team had a Saturday doubleheader get off to a horrible start, but the Golden Eagles were able to turn things around and enjoy plenty of good moments by the time the day ended.
After falling behind 8-0 in the second inning of the opener, the Golden Eagles came alive and wound up sweeping Cal State Dominguez Hills, 10-9 and 12-5 in a California Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader at Reeder Field. Isaiah Marquez went 4-for-4 with a home run and seven RBI in the nightcap to back Cal State LA starter
Owen Hunt, who went 4 1/3 innings to pick up his second win of the season. The seven RBI are one shy of the program record of eight held by Jacob Ferris (2006) and Mike Pease (1967). He's the first to have seven RBI in a game since Sam Wiley at Cal State Monterey Bay in March of 2010.
Javy Espinoza had a pair of hits and also homered, while
Andrew Tovar,
Art Ruiz,
Malik Clayton and
Kai Penuelas had two hits each.
After Hunt left after retiring the only batter he faced in the fifth,
Joel Martinez got the final eight outs and was outstanding, striking out five and allowing only one hit in 2 2/3 scoreless innings for his second save of the season.
After the Toros' Trey Winget hit a grand slam home run as part of a five-run second inning, the Golden Eagles wiped out a 5-2 deficit with a four-run third inning.
Matthew Piotrowski doubled in a run and Marquez hit a two-run home run to tie it.
Ethan Gonzalez then singled in Clayton to give the Golden Eagles the lead.
Cal State LA added two in the fourth on a two-out, two-run single by Marquez and the Golden Eagles scored four times in the sixth on a solo home run by Espinoza, a two-run double by Marquez and a groundout by Gonzalez.

After
Eric Navarrete allowed only one earned run over five strong innings of relief,
Michael Gill retired all six batters he faced in two hitless innings to get the win.
