SANTA CLARITA -- Cal State LA's women's cross country team returned to competition on Saturday in a qualify field at The Master's Invitational.
Nelly Garnica was the Golden Eagles' top runner for a third consecutive meet and finished 79th in a field of 231 runners.Â
As a team, Cal State LA was 21st overall with 569 points. Salt Lake won the meet with the host Master's coming in second. Fresno Pacific was third, Emery-Riddle of Arizona was fourth and Marian (Ind.) was fifth. Cal State LA was the only California Collegiate Athletic Association team to compete in the meet.
Garnica led the way once again for the Golden Eagles with a time of 24:03.60 over a 6,000-meter course at Santa Clarita's Great Park.Â
Mikaela Holguin was next for the Golden Eagles, finishing 154th in 25:43.70.
Alejandra Estrada was 181st in 26:57.40,
Norma Martinez was 185th in 27:24.10 and
Jasmine Trujillo was 197th in 27:53.50 to complete Cal State LA's top-five.
Jaqueline Monroy was 226th with a time of 32:10.60.
Cal State LA will compete again on Saturday, Nov. 19 at UC Riverside's Highlander Classic.
