FRESNO -- Cal State LA's women's tennis team started its 2023-24 season with a strong showing on Thursday at the opening day of the ITA Fall Regionals hosted by Fresno Pacific.

Sarah Olmos won her two singles matches on Thursday to advance to the Round of 16, while Hideka Takamura and Rochelle Suarez won their first-round singles contests.

In doubles, Courtlyn Lam and Suarez won their first-round match before falling in a second-round contest.

Olmos, Cal State LA's No. 1 singles player last season, opened her junior season with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Abbigail Mulick of Stanislaus State. She then beat Isabelle Conan of Colorado Mesa, 6-4, 6-1.

Takamura, meanwhile, beat Hawaii Pacific's Jayanne Palma, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) in her opening match. She then fell in an evening battle to Annabelle Mulick of Stanislaus State, 7-6 (8-6), 7-5.

Suarez beat Margurita Munoz of Fresno Pacific, 7-6, 4-6 (10-6) in her first match before falling to Arianna Audelo of Point Loma, 6-0, 6-2.

Summer Roybal fell to Cristiana Miruna Tudor of Azusa Pacific in the first round, 6-0, 6-0, while Lea Rolland fell to Abigail Wild of Hawaii Pacific, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, Lam and Suarez beat Alicia Da Re and Emilie Lugon of Concordia, 8-3, before falling to Alex Mann and Brooke Fager of Biola, 8-3.

Olmos and Takamura fell in a terrific match against Annabelle Mulick and Zuzanna Aziewiecka, 9-7, while Roybal and Rolland fell to Elise Leik and Daimy Paula of Fresno Pacific, 8-4.

The tournament will continue on Friday with main draw and consolation matches.
