AZUSA -- Cal State LA's men's and women's track and field teams completed the regular season at the Franson Last Chance Meet at Azusa Pacific.
Shannon Turner had the top performance, turning in a stunning time of 1:48.53 while finishing second in the 800 meters that almost broke a program record that has stood since 1956. His time shot up to No. 2 on Cal State LA's all-time list, trailing only Mal Whitfield's program record of 1:48.2. Pending other marks from this weekend, Turner now owns the No. 6 time in the nation.Â
Porte-Joie Tshiaba also posted a new season's best while winning the high jump with a mark of 7-00.25. Pending other marks from the weekend, he moves into a tie for No. 11 in the nation. It was at this meet last year that Tshiaba, in his first event of the season, soared to a mark of 7-2.50 and qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships. He went on to finish eighth in the nation to earn his second All-America award.
Marks can be posted for nationals through Sunday with final declarations announced on Monday and the tournament field announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Cal State LA's bid to improve its qualifying time in the 4x100 was unsuccessful as the Golden Eagles did not finish the event.
Eden Hahn was the only Golden Eagle who competed for the women's team and she was 36th in the 100 with a time of 12.40 and 27th in the 200 with a time of 25.33.
