BERKELEY -- Cal State LA's men's and women's track and field teams had some strong performances Saturday at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational hosted by Cal Berkeley.

Riyanna Jackson picked up a victory in the women's javelin with a season's best throw of 114-5, while Porte-Joie Tshiaba took second in the men's high jump with a mark of 6-8.75 for the top individual finishes.

Cal State LA's men's 4x400 relay team of Shannon Turner, Jesus Nichol II, Donavan Williams and Joshua Lovato finished second with a time of 3:24.34, while Shawn Simms had a seventh-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 22-1.50.

Cal State LA also had an impressive 2-3 finish in the 800 with Turner finishing second in 1:52.26 and Nichol II taking third in 1:54.12.

Darnelle Harris also had a top-10 finish after taking ninth in the 100 with a time of 10.87.

Cal State LA will return to action on Wednesday and Thursday when the Golden Eagles host the Cal State LA Twilight Open. Wednesday's throwing events will be held at Cerritos College, while the main portion of the meet will be held on Thursday at Cal State LA's Jesse Owens Track. The day will be highlighted by a California Collegiate Athletic Association Hall of Fame induction ceremony for Cal State LA Hall of Famer Sherri Howard beginning at 3 p.m. The day is also an Alumni Event for all Cal State LA alumni.
